Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
|
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an experiential approach that supports you in addressing your therapeutic goals. As opposed to room-based therapy, you learn by doing not only talking and horses participate in this innovative modality as assistants, co-facilitators and teachers. While interacting with the horses in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment, self-awareness is developed, and you explore how you relate with yourself and others and what parts of your experience keep you stuck. Emotional and psychological wellbeing is expanded as new and more adaptive ways of being in relationship with yourself, and others are explored. You learn to reconnect with your most supportive part of yourself.
There are lots of programs that offer equine experiences. However, Gestalt therapeutic processes underpin the EAP model developed by The Equine Psychotherapy Institute, which is also informed by the latest neuroscience and trauma-informed practices.
Single sessions or short-medium-long term episodes of treatment can help you explore personal and spiritual growth, depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences or skills development amongst other concerns.
During EAP sessions, there is no teaching or training of the horses, no riding, and it is not about helping horses overcome any issues.
