Fees

The general fee is $190 per session of approximately 50-55 minutes for a private self-funded appointment. All clients are requested to settle their accounts at the time of the consultation.
A referral as part of a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) done by your GP, allow you to receive a Medicare rebate for each psychological session. This covers a portion of the session fees.
Psychological services are also eligible via TAC, WorkCover, VOCAT, Employee Assistant Programs at work or under Private Health insurance (level of cover dependant). Please check with your health fund regarding out of pocket expenses as rebates differ between funds.

Do you write reports?
Yes. Right Brain Psychology provides assessment and report writing for VOCAT purposes.
We do not provide report writing for court related matters (i.e. custody disputes) or cognitive assessments (i.e. Diagnosis assessments, NDIS funding applications, etc.). Please get in touch to request information on other types of reports.

Do you work with WorCover/TAC/NDIS/VOCAT?
Yes, we are able to see clients with NDIS self-managed plans and clients under, or wanting to engage with, VOCAT, TAC and WorkCover. Please note that Right Brain Psychology is not a registered NDIS provider.
WHAT IS A MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN?
GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist can refer children, adolescents, and adults experiencing psychological, emotional or behavioural issues to see a mental health practitioner (i.e. psychologist, mental health social worker or mental health nurse). Through the Better Access Scheme (Mental Health Care Plan-MHCP), if determined eligible by the GP people can receive:
*Please note that due to the COVID situation, an extra 10 sessions per year are available for eligible Victorians. Please consult your GP if you require further sessions.
- Up to 10 individual sessions in a calendar year. Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions.
- Up to 10 group therapy sessions in a calendar year where such services are available and seen as appropriate by your referring doctor and the psychologist.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A MEDICARE REBATE?
The steps are to:
- Book a double appointment with your GP. Ask for a Mental Health Care Plan and discuss with the GP why you`d like psychological therapy.
- Your GP will assess your symptoms and current circumstances to determine eligibility. If deemed appropriate, they will generate the Mental Health Care Plan and provide you with a referral letter to a psychologist. Please note that you can request a specific psychologist.
- Ask the GP clinic to fax the referral to the psychology clinic and bring the referral letter to the first session. Please note this paperwork is required for you to be able to claim the Medicare rebates.
HOW DO I PAY AND WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Payment is required after your session via easy online payment or phone. We require 24 hours' notice for cancelling appointments; otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE FIRST SESSION?
The first session or two are focused on gathering information, on understanding … An important step is …your coping mechanisms, your strengths, your supports and your therapeutic goals. In subsequent sessions, when the intervention starts, these themes will be expanded and skills developed.
